Direct drive pumps are equipped with a hollow shaft that slides directly onto the drive shaft of an electric motor or gas engine.
As a result of this set-up the pump will turn at the same speed as the engine or motor it is connected to. This means that direct drive pumps will turn at an average rate of 3450 RPM when connected to a gas engine, and between 1725 and 3450 RPM when coupled with an electric motor.
Due to their design, direct drive pumps are generally more compact than their belt driven counterparts. Furthermore, the simple drive system means that there are fewer moving parts, which typically makes direct-drive pumps a less expensive option when choosing a pressure washer pump.
